Machine Shop Scheduler / Production Planner Location: Euless - TX
Department: Operations / Manufacturing Reports to: VP of Operations
Level: MidSenior (hands-on, execution-focused) Position Summary
TheMachine Shop Scheduler is responsible for building, maintaining,
and executing the master production schedule for a multi-machine
CNC environment. This role is the shop's central nervous system,
balancing machine capacity, operational sequences (OP1, OP2, OP3),
raw material availability, quality constraints, and customer
priorities. This person does not just schedule jobs they actively
manage flow, anticipate problems before they occur, and coordinate
across machining, tooling, quality, procurement, and shipping to
ensure on-time delivery with minimal disruption. Success in this
role requires deep manufacturing awareness, strong communication,
and the ability to make fast, informed trade-off decisions. Key
Responsibilities Production Planning & Scheduling Develop and
maintain the master production schedule across CNC mills, lathes,
OPS, and secondary operations Sequence work orders across OP1, OP2,
OP3, and downstream processes Balance finite machine capacity,
setup times, run times, and labor constraints Continuously adjust
schedules based on: Hot jobs/customer expedites Machine downtime
Quality holds or rework Material shortages Material & Supply
Coordination Verify raw material availability prior to releasing
jobs to the floor Coordinate with Supply Chain and receiving to:
Prevent material-driven line stoppages Aligning material delivery
with schedule needs Flag risks related to: Long-lead materials
Special alloys Outside processing Quality & Compliance Awareness
Integrate quality checkpoints into the production schedule Account
for: First Article Inspections (FAI) In-process inspections Final
inspection capacity Adjust schedules for: Nonconformances MRB
activity Rework or scrap events Cross-Functional Communication Act
as the primary scheduling interface between: Machining Quality
Procurement Shipping Sales Lead or actively participate in
daily/weekly production meetings Clearly communicate: Priority
changes Schedule risks Recovery plans Execution & Continuous
Improvement Monitor schedule adherence and identify root causes of
misses Drive improvements in: Job flow Queue times Bottlenecks
Required Skills & Experience Technical & Manufacturing Knowledge
Strong understanding of CNC machining environments Hands-on
knowledge of: Multi-operation routings (OP1, OP2, OP3) Setup vs run
time tradeoffs Machine constraints and bottlenecks Ability to read
and interpret: Routers Work orders Travelers Planning & Scheduling
Expertise Experience building finite schedules (not infinite ERP
fantasy plans) Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills required
Experience with scheduling software or MRPs Problem-Solving &
Judgment Ability to make real-time decisions under pressure Strong
critical thinking and prioritization skills Comfortable pushing
back when a schedule is not realistic Preferred Qualifications
Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience Familiarity with
AS9100 / ISO 9001 environments Background in: Production control
Planning Manufacturing supervision Lean manufacturing exposure
(Kaizen, flow, pull systems)
