Nurse - NICU Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care
Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience:
Minimum 1 year in a level III NICU setting License: Registered
Nurse License Certifications: BLS, NRP Must-Have: Experience with
preemies (at least 28 weeks and above) Management of central lines
Respiratory management up to and including intubated patients
Experience caring for surgical and cardiac patients Experience with
trach infants Experience with Broviac lines Description: This
position involves working in a neonatal intensive care unit. The
unit has a total of 108 beds with patient ratios varying from 1:1
to 1:4. Staff includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational
Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Nurse Externs. Common
equipment used in this role includes nasal cannulas, bubble CPAP,
vents, oscillators, IV pumps, NIRS, warmers, and isolette
incubators. Documentation is performed using CPN and Meditech
systems. Scheduling requires 3 twelve-hour shifts per week,
including rotating weekends and holidays. Contract staff are
required to float to other areas as needed, including pediatrics
and PICU. Procedures performed on the unit include central line
insertions, circumcisions, exploratory laparotomies, gastroschisis
reductions, and PDA ligations. A strong emphasis is placed on team
collaboration and the provision of high-quality patient care. The
unit values and recognizes outstanding performance and teamwork.
